Hello, fellow cloggers and travel addicts! Amanpreet here, and today I’m taking you back to one of the most beautiful and slightly absurd trips we’ve ever taken: our odyssey to Khajjiar. You’ve seen the pictures—the floating island, the emerald meadows—but photos don’t capture the sheer joy (and the minor calamities) of trying to find ‘Mini Switzerland’ with my favorite crew!
Kasauli Travel Guide: My Calm & Cozy Getaway in the Hills of Himachal
Chapter 1: Chasing the Swiss Dream
The plan was simple: drive to Khajjiar, witness the famed beauty, and prove once and for all that we could find the Swiss charm right here in Himachal Pradesh. The crew—Rahul, Simran, Vikram, and I—were packed into the car, armed with enough snacks to feed a small army and a playlist that spanned three decades of road-trip anthems.
The journey up the winding, misty roads was immediately epic. The air grew thinner, the pines denser, and the sheer cliffs made us alternately gasp in awe and grab the “oh-crap” handle. Every hairpin bend was an excuse for a new burst of laughter, usually because Vikram was trying (and failing) to use his new camera drone out the window.

Chapter 2: The Great Yak-Jam Incident
We thought we were masters of the road, but the mountains humbled us. Just as we approached the final ascent, we hit a traffic jam unlike any other: a sprawling, utterly unconcerned herd of mountain yaks blocking the entire path.
Instead of getting frustrated, we saw an opportunity for prime blog content! We hopped out, and for thirty ridiculous minutes, we became amateur yak herders. Rahul, attempting to shoo a massive one with a leaf, nearly got headbutted, leading to a video clip that will probably haunt his digital presence forever. It was pure, unadulterated friendship fun—turning a frustrating delay into the highlight of the day. It’s funny how the detours often turn out to be the real destination.
Chapter 3: The Lovely Khajjiar Reveal
Finally, we reached the top, and Khajjiar unfolded before us. It was breathtaking.
Imagine a vast, open meadow, so green it hurts your eyes, encircled by ancient cedar (deodar) forests. And right in the middle, the little floating island on the Khajjiar Lake—a truly lovely, serene sight. After all the chaotic energy of the drive, the silence and the scale of the meadow brought a beautiful sense of peace.
We spent the afternoon just being. We walked barefoot on the grass, feeling the soft dampness under our feet. Simran and I bought local tea from a small stall, and we sat watching the distant mountains, which looked like giants sleeping under a heavy blue blanket. We took zero posed pictures in that hour. We simply looked at each other, smiled, and knew this was the kind of core memory you carry forever. It was the perfect, lovely contrast to our loud, chaotic drive.

The True Switzerland: Friendship
Khajjiar truly earns its nickname. But what made the trip epic wasn’t the scenery; it was the fact that we shared it. Whether we’re navigating a yak traffic jam or staring silently at a beautiful meadow, my friends make every moment worth blogging about.
If you ever get the chance, go to Khajjiar. But more importantly, go with the people who make even a flat tire feel like a party.
